On February 18 2009 a large meeting of students at the University of East London Docklands campus voted to occupy (currently in the West Building), demanding that UEL as an institution should express its condemnation of the war crimes committed by Israel against the people of Gaza. They are also demanding that UEL management should offer scholarships to students from Gaza so that they can come to study at UEL free of charge.
